Workshop Held to Enhance Molecular and Genetic Research Capabilities to Ensure Modern Medical Treatment Methods at BSMMU
University Central Research Center to be Established: Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Hawlader
A significant workshop titled "Epidemiological Methods in Biomedical Research and Outbreak Investigation" was held on Sunday, January 19, 2025, to ensure modern medical treatment methods at BSMMU and to improve the departments under the Faculty of Basic Sciences and Paraclinical Sciences. The workshop was conducted at the Super Specialized Hospital's conference room. The chief guest of the event was the respected Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) and renowned dental specialist Professor Dr. Mujibur Rahman Howlader. The keynote speaker was Dr. Namjul Karim, Clinical Epidemiologist from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.
In his speech, the respected Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) and prominent dental expert Professor Dr. Mujibur Rahman Howlader stated that the workshop on "Epidemiological Methods in Biomedical Research and Outbreak Investigation" will play a significant role in enhancing the quality of higher medical education, research, and treatment at the university to global standards. He also emphasized that molecular and genetic research is critical for disease diagnosis and the development of modern medical treatment methods. With this goal in mind, the University Central Research Center will be established at BSMMU to coordinate all disciplines. The establishment of this center will open new horizons for world-class research.
The workshop also discussed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BSMMU and Monash University, Australia, aimed at improving research capabilities and quality. Faculty members from various departments of the university, including Virology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Laboratory Medicine, Pathology, Anatomy, and Forensic Medicine, participated in the workshop. Notable participants included Professor Dr. Saiful Ullah Munshi, Professor of Virology, Director of the Super Specialized Hospital, and Dean of the University; Professor Dr. Mohammad Mojammel Haque, Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; Professor Dr. Mohammad Saiful Islam, Chairman of Laboratory Medicine; Assistant Professors Dr. Sharmin Akter Sumi and Dr. Abu Hena Helal Uddin Ahmed.
